Affording your study abroad
Studying at a college or university abroad will require funds to support your tuition and living expenses. There are various funds to consider to help support this academic endeavor. Firstly, the best kind of funding is a grant, which is a monetary gift that does not need to be repaid. The next best thing is a scholarship, which is similar to a grant.
The funds from a scholarship do not need to be repaid, but normally you need to apply for it and it could require a membership to an organization or a really good academic or sports background. The last two options in funding this type of academic endeavor are federal and private loans. Federal loans have a lower interest rate than private loans, which is good to keep in mind. Also federal loans take into the consideration of the student and due to economic hardship can be deferred until graduation is done. If the student has not contact the private loan lender about the repayment options, they could start during the schooling process.
This article is specifically focusing on scholarships. If you are planning on studying abroad, you may be looking for a scholarship to help offset the financial burden. A scholarship in general helps those who are planning to further their education. However a scholarship is only awarded based on specific criteria, which is either determined by the granter or the type of scholarship it is.
There are 5 types of scholarships: merit, need, sociology, institutional and general. A merit scholarship refers to your abilities in either academia or athletics. Need-based scholarships are meant for those who show a need of financial support due to the family’s financial situation. Sociology-based scholarships refer to qualifications by religion, race, or national origin. The educational facility can award institutional scholarships.
